A131818 Yeoh Min Hui Born This Way

Salam satu Malaysia and greetings. Posted here with my fifth and last journal pertaining the sixth lecture for ZZZT 2253 Pengurusan Emosi. This journal will be a little different from the previous 4 journals as this journal is not based on what the lecture notes but it is about personality tests we did during the lecture. This lecture consists of 3 elements which are the video-viewing session followed by two personality tests.

The lecture started with Encik Zamri showing us a video. That video is about the grief of a man's life. He once lived happily as a contented and satisfied kid when he was small. As he grew, he realized and revealed the ugliness of human and life. He surmounted through backstabbing, betrayal and cruelness of human and he survived through disappointment and lived in despair. He was depressed and lost his faith in life he thought he would have been living in. He also felt like giving up himself and life as he thought that he is rather worthless living on earth as he has no power and the capability of changing the corrupted world with his beliefs and faith. From the lyrics of the song being played, it is rather bitter and would give people watching the video hard feelings. I felt a million stabs on my chest while I was watching and reflecting on this video, to be honest. Ending up with negative mindsets and sank hearts were not Encik Zamri's purpose of playing that video of course and that's why the video also taught us to live life with bravery, determination as well as perseverance regardless of the obstacles, ups and downs and hardship which we have to go through in our life. We were reminded that no matter how hard life is treating us, we should hang on and thrive because at the end of the day, we are the ones who will be determining the success of our life and life and time go on with no mercy waiting for losers. Based on the video, although the author lived in a somewhat seems like a hopeless life and although he felt like giving up during the downs of his life and lost in faith, he still braced through all the hardships embracing the people around him and survived. According to Anderson C. A., people tend to hold on to their beliefs even when it appears that they shouldn't. Belief perseverance is the tendency to cling to one's initial belief even after receiving new information that contradicts or disconfirms the basis of that belief. Everyone has tried to change someone's belief, only to have them stubbornly remain unchanged. For example, you may have had such debates concerning the death penalty, or abortion, or evolution. In many cases, resistance to challenges to beliefs is logical and defensible. For example, if you've always done well in math classes, getting a "C" on a math test should not lead you to abandon your belief that you are usually good at math. However, in some cases people cling to beliefs that logically should be abandoned, or at least modified. There is overwhelming evidence that smoking increases the likelihood of contracting cancer and that exposure to media violence increases the likelihood of aggressive behaviour. Yet, some people strongly deny these scientific truths. Hence, we see the importance and significance of perseverance in life to survive through all the obstacles and hardships.

Next, the lecture was continued with the first personality test which is the most accurate personality test, according to Encik Zamri. This personality test, ultimately brings us to two distinct personality, which are Type A and Type B personalities. Type A personality has been described as a character of an overachiever. They put in very high hope and expectation on themselves and often end up creating unnecessary stress for themselves. They think that having twenty four hours a day is not enough and hence they are always rushing and chasing for time. This is because they always plan more tasks for themselves to be achieved, even out of their capability, which in another word, pushing and forcing themselves to do more. In this way, they will always be overwhelmed by stress without their own realisation. On the other hand, type B personality portraits people who are almost opposite of Type A personality. They are naturally-born relaxers. They will not get tensed up easily because they will not rush themselves to complete the tasks given and they often do things in the very last minutes. In addition, they will not force themselves to do things out of their capability. They are the easy-going people who take things lightly and hence they hardly get stressed out. After the personality test, I realised I'm generally of Type A, although not all the time but most of the time. I often get tensed up performing tasks which I'm not confident in and always compound myself into certain schedule to follow in preparation for certain challenge, for examples, examinations and presentations. In short, there are pros and cons in both personalities but as long as we are able to balance ourselves between them, we shall be under control of our own life.

Follow on, we are exposed to another personality test, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality test which is originally developed by Carl Jung. MBTI sorts psychological differences into four opposite pairs, individuals are classified as extroverted or introverted (E or I), sensing or intuitive (S or N), thinking or feeling (T or F), and judging or perceiving (J or P) with a resulting 16 possible psychological type. After the test, I've got the result of an ESTP, whom is The Doers. The ESTPs, together with the ESFPs are described as extraverted sensing personality types which are pragmatic and realistic with a zest for living life to the fullest by way of multiplying experiences. Always on the alert for what needs immediate attention or what might provide a bit of action, excitement or entertainment, they engage quickly with their environment. They seek and enjoy freedom, are good-natured, direct, and tolerant and are often the ones who provide levity. They have a way with dealing with people on a very equal platform and are not easily star struck. Rank, celebrity and status mean little when they are face to face with another individual. On the job, they appreciate having the right tools and are quite ingenious at finding ways to fix and repair things with dexterity. They love variety and are curious and adventurous, enjoying the unexpected. Their brand of extraversion is one of deeds rather than words. As long as things are moving along, they are happy. They like to keep things simple and immediate, going with the flow. They are helpful in very concrete ways, providing the correct tools or specific service the person requires. They often have an uncanny ability to respond appropriately in cases of emergencies, often having excellent reflexes. They act without thinking. They also tend to have natural mediating skills. They are attuned to the environment and the myriad colours, textures, sounds, beauty and the sensuousness of it all. They are quite graceful and agile while moving through their environment. They love having fun and if things are too quiet they may provide the entertainment or distraction. They learn by imitation and are keen observers. They teach through example. Their attention will always go towards whatever provides the keenest impression on their senses. I find the result quite appropriate to my personality.
Lastly, we are asked to do another personality test which is based on the Big Five Theory : Openness to Experience, Conscientiousness, Emotional Stability, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism, OCEAN in short. In this test, I scored the highest for neuroticism, which reflects one who is always under emotional instability. Neuroticism is described as a personality trait of someone wound tight, easily upset or moody, tense, and prone to stress and worry (Friedman & Schustack, 2009, p. 267). This type of person would be prone to stress due to worrying about a decision, an outcome, or the prospect of making a decision. This type of person would be fearful of making the wrong decision. According to Friedman and Schustack (2009), the antithesis of this type of personality trait is someone stable and emotionally grounded. To be frank, I kind of expected this result from myself before doing the test. That is because I'm rather an emotional and sentimental human.
In conclusion, every human on earth is born with their very own unique and special personality, which makes each and every one of us different. We ought to appreciate this special gift from God and try to make full use of it in the correct way so as to create a harmony and peaceful world which we are all living in.
